Why is appearance important?
Every company/business has a certain look and form they stand by. Conveying a professional appearance will allow you to seem more suited for the job than an average person. The employer wants to see intelligence, responsibility, and independence radiate from your appearance.
TIPS TO DRESS APPROPRIATELY
What to do:✔ MEN - Wear a suit or khaki pants with a button up. WOMEN - Wear a pantsuit, skirt or dress that is knee length. Wear a blazer or blouse. Make sure your clothes are ironed!
✔ Stay on the conservative side. Show minimal skin. ✔ Make sure everything fits comfortably. If your clothes are too tight you will act tense and not feel confident. ✔ Avoid loud colors. Dress in neutral tones so your outfit isn't distracting. ✔ Style your hair neatly and wear little to no makeup. (if you do wear makeup keep it natural.) |
What not to do:✘ Don't show any tattoos or piercings. Hide your tattoos with clothes/take out your piercings.
✘ Leave the jewelry at home. You don't want to wear excessive, flashy jewelry that will annoy or distract the employer. ✘ Avoid strong perfumes/colognes. You don't want your scent to be overpowering. ✘ Don't smoke right before your interview. The scent will linger and could possibly bother the employer. |
ADDITIONAL TIPS
- Shake the employers hand! This is important when introducing yourself to them.
- Maintain good posture throughout the entire interview.
- Make sure to have some enthusiasm in your voice. Being monotone could make you seem boring/uninterested.
- Listen!! Don't cut the employer off. What they are saying and asking is important and you want to hear what they have to say.
- Don't be cocky. You don't want to sound full of yourself or give off the impression that you are better than them.
- Use appropriate language. Cussing is definitely off limits during the interview.
- Don't talk too much. People tend to ramble when they are nervous and you want to come off as confident as possible.
